Avicii vs Afrojack

When DJ Mag asked Tiesto who, in his opinion, was the breakout DJ/producer of 2010, he said Avicii (aka Tim Berg). Big praise from a one of the biggest fish in the pond, and it certainly seems justified considering Avicii's recent work. Avicii's Essential Mix was a front-runner for the Best Mix of 2010 award. A lot of people, including David Guetta, have been saying that another new to the scene DJ was the breakthrough, by the name of Afrojack. The two have different styles, with Afrojack being the heavier of the two, which a lot of people will like, but for some reason Avicii's tracks seem to have better quality production than Afrojack's. This was really the standout year for both of them. So who's your choice?

Swedish House Mafia back again!

So BBC Radio 1 announced the winner of Best Essential Mix for 2010. For those of you who don't listen in on a weekly basis, the Essential Mix is hosted by Pete Tong, and usually provides with an amazing 120-minute set of house. The program holds a legendary role for increasing the popularity of electronic dance music in the UK since its inception in 1993. The Essential Mix goes on the road to major events like Ibiza in the summer and festivals like Creamfields and Sugarbeat, and the live sets from there make up the Essential Mix for that week. This year's Best Essential Mix was no surprise really, but a huge shout anyways to SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA.

Spencer & Hill

If you like electro house with great vocals, then your'e gonna like Spencer & Hill. Another Germany-based pair of artists, Spencer & Hill have so many different aliases that its sometimes difficult to know who made what your'r listening to. Manuel Reuter (Josh Hill) is part of Cascada, Liz Kay, MYC, Plazmatek, and a host of others, and I don't know much about Manuel Schleis (Spencer). Whatever their names are and whatever they work on, its the end result we're interested in and Spencer & Hill is rock-solid. 
Their Compilation mixtape, 'Housebeats 1' came out last January, and there are rumors that Housebeats 2 might be coming out this January, so here's hoping. Their latest album, 'The Funky Years', was released in September, and I suggest you get that. If you're broke, please tune in here:

Nadia Ali and Hardwell

Tiesto - Escape Me

There's a reason Tiesto has been voted one of the Top 3 Best DJs by DJ Mag for the past 9 years, and its tracks like this. Although Tiesto's music is usually classified as trance, he incorporates a lot of what most people would call house into his style, and the result is what you have here. I personally feel that when it comes to Tiesto and remixes, he should be the one doing the remixes, instead of remixes being done of his work, but Avicii, who is on fire at the moment equals if not betters Tiesto's mix. Check them both out:

Ministry of Sound is where its at. The Annual - 2011 has been released, and as with most things MoS, it's awesome. Having said that, in anticipation for its release I've been listening to the MoS Clubbers' Guide Ibiza for this year, and this one track has been stuck in my head:
