Bassworm - New Tracks

These two tracks are quite different from anything we post on WYLSS. Bassworm labeled one as a 'soundtrack'. The other one is a mix of progressive house and trance. Bassworm is definitely talented. The music is smooth and he knows what kind of sounds to incorporate. Definitely worth a listen or two:
Bassworm - Downclimate (Original Mix) by Bassworm
Midnight Sun is the first single off of his newest LP.

Essential New Tune: 28/02/2011

Pete Tong was back this Saturday, with something a little bit different. And by different I mean reggae. The song was played live from Sheffield; so its not the full mix, but its not really my cup of tea. Take a listen:

The Magician - Magic Tape Seven

Mysterious Belgian producer The Magician in back with another mix. Something about this mix gives off that 'fed up with winter, wanna be by the poolside' vibe. Chilled Electronic for all you fans out there. Enjoy
  Magic Tape Seven by TheMagician

Cerebral Vortex - Fly By Night (Cyberpunkers Remix)

Chill by day and Fly by night, or whatever your motto is, this track is great. It's one of those tracks that fuses so many different sounds that you couldn't possibly complain that it's 'too normal'. Cyberpunkers in general can't be classified as normal, cuz who else do you know that DJs in paintball masks?

Cosmo Baker- February's Top Ten Mix

Cosmo Baker's got that creative and different style of house that we appreciate at WYLSS. This is the kind of music you can have on in your room, at a party, in your car, whatever. It always works, and I guess that's the brilliance behind it. Here is what the Baker himself had to say:
"Okay here’s my February Top Ten List in full downloadable and jammable form. I know I’m dropping this a little early but whatever, it’s done and I just want to get it out there. And you know, I’m always looking towards the future anyway. So here’s the scoop, here’s 10+ songs that really moved me and made an impact over the past month. I’ve played a lot of these out at gigs, jammed seriously HARD to a bunch of them in the crib or the iPhone, and just basically got it in with these tunes. A cross section of joints, but that’s where I am as a DJ and a music head – I like pretty much everything. So I hope you enjoy this month’s installment. And remember, if you like any of these tunes, support the artist by going out and BUYING their tunes, either in retail stores or online. And if you have a chance to seem them perform live, these artists and DJs, DO IT."
Sounds good to me. Enjoy:

A Lot Of Love From Brasil!!

WYLSS is getting a lot of love from Brazil. I guess I always associated music from Brazil with hot girls in thongs at the Rio Carnival, but there is a growing electro house and techno trend that's starting to become realised around the world. One of the main examples of this is that Sensation White have hosted parties in Brazil for the past couple of years. Anyways, here are our friends Criminal Minds once again, this time going in hard on a Deadmau5 track:
Deadmau5 - The Reward Is Fucking Cheese (Criminal Minds Mashup) by criminalminds
I've also got some tracks from a few new artists that I hadn't heard about before. They all produce electro house, which I'm pretty sure you'll take a liking to. First up is HAS!. HAS! produces a fusion of electro and techno, but the end product is pretty smooth. We don't post a lot of techno on WYLSS, but if you're into it then definitely check this guy out:
Gustavo Mota - Doctor Blue (Has! Remix) by HAS!
Download
The Boomzers - WTF! (Has! Official Remix) by HAS!
Next up is Gerra G. This is more like the kind of stuff we usually post on WYLSS; electro house with a bit of creativity that turns normal tracks, into good tracks, and good tracks into great ones.
  Aqualight - I am Dancing ( Gerrá G. Remix ) by Gerrá G.
Gerra G looks to have a big future ahead of him, as he has already signed on to prestigious Toronto-based label BugEyed Records.
  Gerrá G. & Lewis - After Torn ( Gerrá G. Remix ) by Gerrá G.
Gerrá G. -Some Wings by Gerrá G.
Finally, we got E-Cologyk, another electro-house duo that sprung up in the past year and that has people talking. They name fellow Brazilian producers Darth & Vader and Zedd (who is signed on to BugEyed Records) as their influences, among others. Sounds good to me.
MC Freeflow - Waitin For You (E-Cologyk Remix) [DEMO] by E-Cologyk

Criminal Minds!

A couple of weeks ago WYLSS posted about Criminal Minds, who are part of a new trend of Brazilian house. They've just released a new track, check it out:
Criminal Minds - Learning (Original Mix) by criminalminds
The heavy bass and drums from usually associated with dubstep feature in Criminal Minds' work, but they integrate to form their own style, which is pretty cool.
More from them soon.

Bassworm? YES PLEASE

Bassworm is an up'n'coming one. The thing that makes him stand out is the fact that he's different. And being different is always cool. I don't really know how to some up his music. It's progressive house, but a more creative label is needed. This is his description:
I think music nowadays is getting way too generic, not that that's a bad thing, but I get tired of it once in a while. So I decided to follow generic format songs and infuse them with my own kind of musical disorder as to not bore listeners with the same kind of crap they listen to over and over again,
Sincerly,
Bassworm

Maybe that will shed some light on it. It definitely isn't everybody's cup of tea, but just listen and figure it out for yourselves.
Bassworm - The Small Plastic Toy Elephant Army (Original Mix) by Bassworm
Marcio Lama - BOO! (Original Mix) by Bassworm
Eurythmics - Here Comes The Rain Again (Marcio Lama Trance Bootleg Mix) by Bassworm
So, what did you think?

The Magician

A while ago I posted a Lykke Li track that had been remixed by The Magician called I Follow Rivers. The Magician is an artist who is a bit of a mystery (if you hadn't realised by the choice of name and picture yet) but who is undeniably talented. Check out the track in this post. And tune in below:

Check This Out - One Man Ben and Gorillas On Drums

This weekend has been about relaxing in bed and not doing anything worthwhile, something I will probably regret come Monday morning and lectures. Having said that, the few moments I have been active have been about discovering new music, which is always a worthwhile pursuit in my opinion. So what have we got?
One Man Ben. I'd never heard of him before he sent me a message telling me to check out his music, and I'm pretty glad he did. He is part of a group called Gorillas On Drums, and an EP is due out soon. They produces electro-house and dubstep combinations, which he simply classifies as Electronic, but don't let the label fool you, because it's much more sophisticated than that. Check it out:
This track is probably my favourite, because it's so good and yet so different from other stuff I've heard lately:

More from them coming soon!

Creativity & Dubstep

You might be wondering why a blog primarily directed to house music has a video with a bank advert posted. If you thought we're sell-outs, then you're wrong, (you'll notice there are no ads on this blog). The fact is you need to listen to the song in that advert. And then, listen to this:

Stanton Warriors

Stanton Warriors have been around for so long that sometimes they get forgotten in the midst of all the new and up 'n' coming artists. It's kinda difficult to classify Stanton Warriors under one genre. They started off in garage and breakbeat, but their style encompasses everything from that to electro house to funk. This is from the bio on their page: "Stanton DJ sets are famed for incorporating exclusive original tracks mixed with homemade edits / remixes of cutting edge sounds from underground house through to abstract hip hop and everything in between. It’s all blended into a melting pot of low down booty electro punkishness, and is continually reminding the world why Stanton Warriors have remained unrivalled in their genre for more than a decade."
The most awesome thing about Stanton Warriors is that they're not sell-outs. You feel that they make music for the sake of making music, not for furthering their name or label. It is that ideology that has garnered them massive, almost cult-like, support from around the globe. Even though they've been around for so long, compared to the current crop of artists, Stanton Warriors are a breath of fresh air.
Stanton Warriors - Live from Avalon, Hollywood 07-01-11 by Stanton Warriors
To showcase the musical versatility of Stanton Warriors, I've thrown in a bit of everything; whatever your style, you're sure to find something here.

Stanton Warriors - Turn Me Up Some (zane lowe radio rip) by Stanton Warriors

Zedd

Zedd is from Germany. He produces electro house. He's pretty damn good. That's all I know. Enjoy.

Diddy tracks have been doing the rounds lately because of his new album Last Train To Paris. I haven't listened to the album, and I probably won't, but, like many out there, I feel that Diddy should only be on the track in a producing sense, not a vocal one. Zedd remixes 'Ass On The Floor', and because of the bassline, Diddy's vocals provide a nice contrast for once.
Diddy - Ass On The Floor (Zedd Remix) by Zedd
Zedd's production dabbles into the dark arts of dubstep, and you can tell with the heavier beats and the thick basslines on his tracks. Check these two remixes of Skrillex tracks:
Skrillex - Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites (Zedd Remix) by Zedd
Download
Skrillex - Weekends!!! feat. Sirah (Zedd Remix) by Zedd
Download
I have to say that I haven't jumped on to the bandwagon that's in love with new hip-hop artist B.o.B. If all his tracks sounded like this, I might just jump on though.
B.o.B. - Nothin' On You (Zedd Remix) by Zedd
Finally, we have to finish things off with the legendary Fatboy Slim. By the way, if you haven't seen the video for the original version of this track, go do that right now!
Fatboy Slim - Weapon Of Choice (Zedd Remix) by Zedd
Download.

This Sound Is FAR TOO LOUD!

Far Too Loud is another electro house act based in Brighton. A.k.a. Oliver Cash, this music is electro house at its finest. Far Too Loud started off in breakbeat, and you can still see the elements of that in his current production. Far Too Loud has been gaining a lot of recognition over the past few years for his work, and if you're not acquainted with it, now is your chance. Enjoy, and don't forget to to crank up your speakers FAR TOO LOUD so that you can experience the sound of the dirty basslines that have come to define his work.

And if that's not enough to satisfy your urges, here is 1 hour of pure house that will leave you breathless.

Mylo

Scottish electronic music maestro Mylo will forever be associated with 'Drop The Pressure', the track that catapulted him to the world stage. While it was a huge release for him, nothing since has come relatively close, and so in retrospect it must have been a bit of a bittersweet moment for him. Mylo still makes great music though. the reason I randomly decided to blog about Mylo is that I saw this track a couple days ago, which is IMMENSE:   CUT COPY - Take Me Over (Mylo remix) by label Barclay

Here are a few other tracks by Mylo, that aren't particularly new, but are still worth a listen:
Robyn - Don't Fucking Tell Me What To Do (Mylo & Sharooz Mix)
Moby - Lift Me Up (Mylo Remix)
Mylo - Macrobiotic

Adam K - Don't Kick My Bag Bitch

Adam K, one of the freshest producers out of Canada is back at it again with a track titled 'Daun't Kick My Bag Bitch'. (Don't know why it's spelled that way, I'm just assuming it has to do with Canadian phonetics.) He says this about the track: "can't wait till you al hear the story behind this. anyways this is sort of a deadmau5 type tune. well more than sort". The track really does have that Deadmau5 vibe to it, but in my opinion there's something about this that's makes it slightly better.

And here are another two tracks by Adam K, one of them featuring his long-term producing partner Soha.

Afrojack & Bobby Burns - Bridge (Original Mix)

Afrojack's first big release of the year is Bridge, with Bobby Burns. I really like this track, because I was starting to get sick of Afrojack's Clap 'n' Bass style, which he was using on every track he played. Despite saying that, the music he produces is usually quite good.

The problem with artists that get popular is that all of a sudden people will start layering every track they make with compliments, simply because so-and-so was on the track, even if the track was average at best. Instead of judging each individual track on its merits, people will judge a track based on the fact that Afrojack produced it.

While I realise that its natural to have certain expectations from artists we like, it's a shame that too often hits are made simply because of the name of the artist, rather than the song itself. In many ways it's the same with a designer brand; even though you might really like a brand, doesn't mean you have to support every piece of apparel they produce, because undoubtedly some of them will be rubbish.

Anyways, no Clap 'n' Bass on this one, and no vocals either, just 7 minutes of good sound. Enjoy.

Hard Rock Sofa - Blow Up! on Axtone Records

Hard Rock Sofa are one of the biggest names in house in Russia. HRS have got a lot of support from the biggest names in the business, and their music has been played by everyone from Pete Tong to Tiesto to Danny Tenaglia. A few weeks ago on WYLSS, we announced that HRS were going to release a new single, off of Axwell's Axtone records. Well here it is and it was worth the wait. The two official remixes are better than the original but that's just our opinion. Check 'em out.

Defected - In Their House

Defected In The House is presenting a new monthly mix series (which has actually been going on for a couple of months now), which goes in depth with prominent DJs, presenting a interview and set of the music. The series is aptly called 'In Their House'. The best thing about it is that it isn't all about the celebrity-DJs that you see all over the place, instead it's about those hard-working DJs that either aren't interested in the global scene, or just haven't had their big break yet. In many ways the series is a breath of fresh air, offering different musical styles from less traditional sources.

"Launching the series is Melbourne-based DJ and producer Nathan G. Nathan has been instrumental in putting the Australian house music scene on the global map and has made waves recently with a string of high-quality productions and remixes. With releases on labels such as Salted Music and Om, Nathan recently launched his own Luvbug imprint, and his track ’88 Keys To Love’ from the Melbourne Shuffle EP hit No.1 spot on the Traxsource download chart, catching the attention of all the right people on the way there.
Nathan G is a fast-rising talent, and it is with pleasure that we present him as the first DJ in the In Their House series."

"The second instalment is brought to you by Londoner Maya Jane Coles. Maya has had a number of fingers in a few differently flavoured musical pies for some time now, but she recently made her biggest splash on the house world with her ‘What They Say’ EP, the title track from which charted at numbers one and two respectively in Resident Advisors top charted tracks for October and November.
With the year almost done, it looks as if 2011 will be the strongest year yet for the young DJ and producer, and it is with pleasure that we present the following mix for your aural engagement."

"If you've ever wandered happily across the legendary Pacha Terraza, chances are you've grooved to the sounds of a certain multi-talented DJ without ever knowing who it was. During the summer months, Cristian Doros aka Mr Doris holds down residencies at two of the biggest clubs on the planet; Space (for Carl Cox, Come Together & We Love...) and Pacha, while over the winter period he holds down a coveted residency for London based Soundcrash (alongside DJ Vadim & Mr Thing). Here, he heads up the third edition of the ‘In Their House’ series.
Receiving praise from a diverse range of musical maestros such as Carl Cox, Mayer Hawthorne, Dimitri From Paris, Carl Craig, Guru, Gilles Peterson, Jurassic5, Roni Size & DJ Kentaro to name just a few, his highly eclectic mix demonstrates why the above mentioned artists hold him in such high regard."

If you're interested in the interviews or the tracklists, drop a comment and I'll make sure they're posted.
